Dinner With Cupid

Opposites, in fact

Can an MBA candidate make a connection with a programming grad student, or will the line break up?

WHEN HE’S HAPPIEST When I am cooking and have a movie going.

WHY HE’S A CATCH I love animals, I am goofy, and I always want to see people happy.

MIKE I didn’t really have much time that day to pace back and forth in my living room and freak myself out.

NICOLE I’ve never been on a blind date, so I had no clue what to expect. I like meeting new people, so I was OK with that part.

MIKE I was a minute or two early. It still felt like an eternity.

NICOLE He was already there when I got to the restaurant.

MIKE She was in good shape, rather pretty, and had a charismatic smile.

NICOLE As much as I had no expectations, I wasn’t really expecting him.

NICOLE It was random conversation after random conversation. You name it, we talked about it.

MIKE [We] had difficulty remembering how we got to subject A from subject B.

NICOLE We ordered [from the] raw bar first. I suggested trying it. I then ordered clam chowder.

MIKE None of the food really stuck out. I was too much into the conversation.

NICOLE I was trying to figure out for the life of me how we were matched up.

MIKE Our sense of humor, the fact that we both have half a fake tooth, and we both love dogs — though she hates cats. Honestly, though, there wasn’t much more than that.

NICOLE I was pretty comfortable the whole time. There were no awkward silences, but we did get into some really weird conversations.

MIKE I got more comfortable as the date progressed, since I could tell that she was someone that I could be myself around.

NICOLE I was all set to go after dinner ended.

MIKE We wound up sticking around for what was probably another hour. Thank goodness it was a slow night at that restaurant.

NICOLE He walked me to my car.

MIKE I started walking away and then immediately turned around and confirmed with her that she had the right e-mail address for me.

NICOLE I gave him a hug and said good night.

MIKE We’ll go on another date if she calls me. For now I’m just playing the waiting game.

NICOLE No. I’m definitely not his type, nor is he mine.  — Compiled by Katy Rushlau
