> GETTING INSPIRED

NICK I pulled an outfit together, showered, shaved, and asked some co-workers for pointers.

ARIELLE I was in a rush, since I had to pick up a [car].

NICK I arrived early, took a look at the menu, and decided what I might eat.

ARIELLE I got a little turned around. I’d say I was about five minutes late.

NICK I was already sitting. The hostess brought her to the table.

ARIELLE The restaurant was empty. I knew he had to be the nervous one in blue.

NICK I thought she was pretty. She had a really nice smile and pretty eyes.

ARIELLE He’s tall. Cool glasses, too.

> FOREGROUND

NICK I asked her how her commute was and where she was from.

ARIELLE He works at a motorcycle shop, went to school for business, and plays a lot of different instruments.

NICK She lives to paint. I found out what music she likes, her favorite television shows, and that she is a vegetarian.

ARIELLE We both got pad Thai, mine with tofu instead of shrimp.

NICK We both enjoy art in our own way; she loves to paint and I am a musician.

ARIELLE I didn’t feel like we had that much in common.

NICK As the date went on, the conversation became a lot easier.

ARIELLE He was really nervous, slurping back his beers in huge gulps, so that made me even more uncomfortable.

NICK I instantly found her attractive, but it was good to put a personality with a face.

ARIELLE I know he was trying to be a gentleman, but I was taken aback when he ordered for both of us.

NICK I think, all in all, it went really well.

ARIELLE I was pretty disappointed that he didn’t seem to have the same adventurous spirit.

NICK I think it’s going to take more than a 60-minute date to realize if there is a spark.

> SHOWCASE

ARIELLE We both had a bit of a drive ahead, so we parted ways.

NICK We got the check.

ARIELLE He had his coat on and was ready to go. He seemed like he was in a hurry.

NICK She gave me a hug and we exchanged information.

ARIELLE He was ready to leave. I literally had to stop him to ask for a hug.

> SECOND DATE?

NICK I hope we end up on another date. I could see having a lot of fun with her.

ARIELLE Probably not. I’m looking to date someone I can be spontaneous with.  — Compiled by Katy Rushlau
