7:30 P.M. PAPA RAZZI, BOSTON
BRANDON I had drinks with some co-workers at the bar in our building and then took the train over to Copley.
SARAH I was totally fine until a minute before I arrived and the panic of what if he doesn’t show up or what if it is awful hit me, but I figured I would be fine because I could eat really fast and probably talk the entire time.
BRANDON I got there at 7:25 p.m. and she arrived literally two minutes after me.
> THE DROP
SARAH He was standing there waiting for the hostess, so I just asked, “Are you Brandon?” and the ice was broken.
BRANDON She was totally at ease. She didn’t seem the slightest bit nervous.
SARAH He seemed like a typical Boston guy. He seemed like he was in shape and preppy based on the orange polo shirt. We talked about our interests, about boats, and our mutual favorite ice cream spot on Cape Cod.
BRANDON We both love to ski. We also both love to exercise, so that was what we talked about for a while.
SARAH We had a lot in common, so that was great. The waiter came by about four times to take our order, but we hadn’t even opened the menu.
BRANDON There wasn’t any point where I felt awkward. I did make a raunchy Aaron Hernandez joke that was in bad taste, but she laughed a little.
SARAH We had similar chill personalities. It was really easy, felt like we had been friends before this.
BRANDON When she smiled, she was more attractive.
SARAH I felt like his age and maturity level showed more as the night continued, and I’m not sure we were on the same page there.
BRANDON Skiing is my favorite sport, so when she said she loved to ski that was very exciting to hear.
SARAH As we were ending dinner, in my head I thought this is going really great . . . it’s not awkward, and the conversation is flowing. But he seemed like he would be more of a good friend to me than someone I would want to date.
> THE FALL LINE
BRANDON I had worked all day and exercised during my lunch break, so I was getting pretty tired. She gets up early to run — 5 a.m. — and works all day, too, so once dinner ended we were both ready to call it a night.
SARAH We walked outside and realized we were going opposite directions. He said we should run or do something together, so I gave him my number.
> SECOND DATE?
BRANDON She is very busy, she claims (which is good), so hopefully we will find time.
SARAH I am super busy, so not really sure. I would consider a run, though.
