It’s the busiest time of year for the Post Office and independent mailers. How many letters and packages does that mean?

December shopping and shipping keeps people in the mail business busy. As some in the industry toy with employing drones to move packages around, the United States Postal Service just keeps plugging away, sending billions of pieces of mail using “planes, trains, trucks, cars, boats, ferries, helicopters, subways, float planes, hovercrafts, T3s” — three-wheeled stand-up electric vehicles — “mules, bicycles, and feet,” according to a spokeswoman. No matter how you send your packages, here’s a tip courtesy of The UPS Store: Include a label on the inside of the box with the destination and return addresses.
