> FLURRIES

MATTHEW I went to a thrift store to buy a clean shirt because all of mine smelled like pizza. Then I went with my boss to her house and drank wine and cokes.

KALEE I had a drink while I got ready at home. On my T ride there I listened to my iPod because I was really excited about a new album I had just bought. I figured the music would mellow me out.

MATTHEW She was already sitting down, and the host took me to the table.

KALEE The restaurant was pretty empty — probably because the weather was so bad — so when the server walked over with just one guy, I knew it was him.

MATTHEW She was attractive.

KALEE I immediately noticed his beard — it was a hefty beard. He was a burly guy with a shaved head. He reminded me of a lumberjack. When he got closer, I saw that he had a septum piercing and was wearing a studded belt, so he definitely didn’t seem boring.

> WHITEOUT

MATTHEW She seemed calm but had an energetic personality.

KALEE He seemed a little nervous but friendly.

MATTHEW We talked about theater, music, teaching kids, and how pretentious people are the worst.

KALEE He is a really interesting guy. He told me he’s in four different punk bands, which didn’t surprise me. I also found out that he’s a puppeteer and works with kids in an after-school arts program. I was definitely not expecting that.

MATTHEW We both work in the service industry and are both involved in theater.

KALEE We found common ground when we were talking about working with kids and the arts. I appreciated his funny stories about the crazy directors he’s worked with.

> TO THE SHOVELS!

KALEE We had both signed up for this blind date on a whim, so I don’t think either one of us was overly invested.

MATTHEW I think she is really cool but I could not see us “dating.”

KALEE I asked him for his full name so I could find him on Facebook. At this point of the night, I knew that we’d just be friends, if anything. If the weather had been better, I probably would’ve gone out for a drink.

MATTHEW We walked out of the restaurant, she said good night, gave me a hug, and then walked away.

> A SECOND DATE?

MATTHEW No. She is not a punk.

KALEE I don’t think there will be a second date, but I could picture us being friends.
