7:15 P.M. CATALYST RESTAURANT, CAMBRIDGE
> HIT THE ROAD
JON I was pretty nervous [before the date]; I had no idea what I was getting into.
SARAH I was a little nervous while walking to the restaurant. Not knowing anything about a date beforehand was a new experience.
JON I was told I was the first one there, so I took a seat in the lounge. Sarah showed up about two minutes later.
SARAH I walked in and told the hostess the name of our reservation. She gave me a knowing smile and told me that Jon was sitting in the waiting area and pointed to him.
JON She had a really beautiful smile; she’s the kind of person that smiles with their eyes. She seemed pretty relaxed.
SARAH He was tall! And he had a huge smile on and gave me a hug. He was cute, and he seemed mostly calm and confident.
> SMOOTH SAILING
SARAH Conversation was really easy, and we had a lot to talk about. We went over the basics of where we were from and what we do.
JON We also talked about how we found out about Dinner With Cupid and how doing it was kind of out of character for both of us. We talked about family, school, work, food, and where we’d been in the world.
SARAH We talked a lot about where we had traveled. We have both spent time in Ecuador, which was a surprise to hear.
JON We both fell in love with the country and both liked traveling.
SARAH Besides traveling, we both volunteer regularly. Jon is a Big Brother and I work at a family homeless shelter to play with the kids living there. This was a big plus for me to know he volunteers.
JON She was beautiful from the start. There was one time when there was a break in the conversation and we shared a look and a smile, and I thought, “Gosh, she’s pretty great.”
SARAH There were no sparks, but no dull moments, either.
> ROUND TRIP?
JON [After dinner] we walked from Kendall to Central, where I hopped on the T.
SARAH It turned out to be a nice night, so the walk was good and gave us more time to chat.
JON I got her number and gave her a hug.
SARAH We hugged good night and said we’d be in touch.
JON I didn’t want to be too forward with a kiss.
> SECOND DATE?
SARAH I would go out with him again.
JON I would love to go on another date.
