WHAT MAKES HER A GOOD CATCH

I’m kind, caring, and always aim to make the people in my life happy.

7:15 P.M. DANTE, CAMBRIDGE

> LESSON PLAN

FREEDEN Before the date, I spent a quiet day at home. I did some writing, listened to music, did some yoga.

EMILY I just did the regular getting ready stuff. I was pretty excited! This was definitely new, meeting someone that I knew absolutely nothing about.

FREEDEN I was a little nervous. I decided to walk to the restaurant.

EMILY I arrived at the restaurant a couple of minutes past 7:15 p.m., and I saw a cute guy about my age standing by himself.

FREEDEN When Emily approached, I thought it had to be her.

EMILY [He was] good looking, well dressed.

FREEDEN I thought Emily looked very nice, and she smiled as she approached.

> SHOW AND TELL

EMILY We talked about a lot — jobs, colleges, families, traveling, music. The conversation flowed nicely the whole time we were there.

FREEDEN We talked about how we both found out about Dinner With Cupid, our hobbies, and being excited for summer after the brutal winter we had in Boston.

EMILY He grew up near where I went to college.

FREEDEN We shared some memories of the campus.

EMILY We are in similar fields of work, both in education but on opposite ends of the spectrum — I teach preschool and kindergarten, he teaches college.

FREEDEN Teaching seems to be her passion. I liked how open Emily was about this part of her life. I was also captivated by how Emily integrates music into her teaching.

EMILY We’re both really interested in music and the effects it has on people.

FREEDEN Emily was really open, there weren’t many breaks in the conversation, the restaurant was elegant, and the food was tasty — all of which made for a nice evening.

EMILY Listening to him talk about his career and interests and his reaction and responses to mine made me feel like this could work out.

> EASY A?

EMILY We were at the restaurant for probably three hours.

FREEDEN We ended up having a long dinner and time seemed to fly by. By dessert, I was starting to get tired and was thinking about having to get up early in the morning.

EMILY I oh-so-subtly said, “Feel free to use my number for more than just sending the pictures.” We told each other we had a good time.

FREEDEN Emily and I hugged, and then I walked home.

> SECOND DATE?

FREEDEN I’m not sure. Emily seems wonderful and we have some things in common, but I didn’t feel much chemistry.

EMILY I think so. It’s up to him to make the next move.
