Architect Bill Boehm at work in the kitchen of his family's Cambridgeport condo with son Theo, 13. When he and his wife, an artist, bought the unit in a multifamily home, they knew the kitchen would need a major overhaul.
The couple's goal was to connect the kitchen with the dining room and instill a sense of airiness, despite the limited square footage. Stainless steel shelves from a restaurant supply company take the place of space-eating overhead cabinets.
Orange cabinets, a yellow pantry, and blue linoleum floors establish the palette.
