Tom Brady’s troubles: A Bill Littlefield poem

Tom Brady, lately fallen from the loftiest of heights,

Will certainly survive the scandal, even as the fights

Between those sure he’s innocent and those who doubt his word

Continue to make news: a circumstance that is absurd . . .

Except there’s money on the line, and lots of money, too.

Tom Brady’s seven million for the stuff he sells to you:

The stuff you wear upon your feet, the stuff that makes you smell,

The car you drive, the things you drink, the other stuff as well.

Purveyors of that stuff may figure Brady’s not their guy . . .

For who would purchase ugly shoes from someone who would lie

About the balls he threw when he destroyed the mighty Colts?

Just folks who missed the news, I guess, and other witless dolts.

Still, who can doubt that Brady, down for now, will rise again,

And carry with him all the Pats? See, obviously when

He’s sat out the suspension, he’ll return as great as new,

And make the world forget the scandal with the deeds he’ll do.

And all of those endorsements lost will magically return,

And once again the doubters to their great surprise will learn

That though we love to see a hero fall a great long way,

We’re doubly thrilled when he climbs back to win another day.
