A Cape Ann geography lesson

What’s that ocean right off Rockport?

The school I teach at, Rockport Middle School, has students from all over Cape Ann. One day, our sixth-grade geography teacher, Mrs. Hildreth, was asking a particular student a question, and the answer she was hoping the student would give was the “Atlantic Ocean.” The student thought and thought and couldn’t come up with anything.

Finally, Mrs. Hildreth figured she’d give the student a hint: “It’s the ocean that’s right off the coast of Rockport.”

The student rolled her eyes, sighed, and said, “But Mrs. Hildreth, I live in Gloucester!”
