‘They’re all dead!’: Waltham killings likely not random

WALTHAM - Her boyfriend was supposed to pick her up at the airport, but never showed, so she took a cab to his apartment Monday afternoon and asked the landlord to let her in. There, the young woman found the bodies of her boyfriend and two other men, stabbed and covered in blood.

Screaming, she ran out of the house and into the street, where she shouted: "They're dead. They're all dead!" over and over, her cries piercing the still of a small, dead-end street.

"She said there was blood everywhere," Meredith Langton, who lives next door and witnessed the scene, said yesterday. "She kept pacing back and forth, saying they were dead."

Authorities said yesterday they are waiting for the bodies to be positively identified. Autopsies are scheduled for today.

They have made no arrests in the triple slaying.

Authorities provided no new details yesterday in their search for one or more assailants.

Officials said they believe at least two people visited the apartment around the time of the killings, which they said were targeted.

"It does not appear to be a random act," said Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr., who called the crime scene "very graphic."

There was no evidence of a break-in, authorities said.

Neighbors said police told them the murders were drug-related and saw police removing what appeared to be large quantities of drugs from the upper-floor apartment.

The district attorney's office would not say whether the killings were drug-related.

Harding Avenue remained cordoned off yesterday, as investigators removed evidence from the scene.

Langton and other neighbors said they did not know the names of the three men who lived in the apartment, but said they were in their mid-20s and seemed nice.

"They were very quiet," said Langton, 23. "They were the first people who lived there that were quiet."

Police were called to the scene at 2:25 p.m. by the landlord, who lives in an apartment below the unit where the killings took place.

He did not return calls seeking comment.

In recent months, a number of drug-related crimes have been reported.

A Reading man was shot and killed in his home in August, in an apparent drug dispute.

A 25-year-old Revere man has been charged in his death.

In July, a 21-year-old woman and her boyfriend were gunned down at their Hyde Park apartment in what police called a "drug-involved homicide."
