Class on musicals blends talents

The first half of the Emerson College screenwriting class could have been any generic writing class. Students discussed plot development, effective characters, and establishing conflict within a story. Then they moved to another classroom, and the musicians and singers came in. One student played a flawless riff on the piano. Another sang and tap danced. Several intensely studied musical scores. These were students from Berklee College of Music, participating in an innovative class, “Writing the Film Musical,’’ jointly offered by the colleges.
