White lawyer sues city agency, alleging bias

MCAD dismissed charge last month

A white lawyer for the Boston Public Health Commission is suing her boss for discrimination, saying in a new federal lawsuit that she lost out on a promotion because of racial bias in favor of a black candidate who was less qualified. Christine Hayes, the commission’s deputy general counsel, filed the suit Friday in US District Court, naming the commission and its executive director, Barbara Ferrer, as defendants. The lawsuit comes less than a month after the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination dismissed a discrimination charge filed by Hayes.
