Former acting fire chief faces charges

A district court has found probable cause for filing criminal charges against former Holyoke acting fire chief William Moran for making a hoax call to his own department. Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni said Wednesday that Moran is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 7 on charges of disorderly conduct and willful and malicious communication of false information of an emergency. Prosecutors say Moran told a dispatcher on June 15 to send a fire truck to the Holyoke Mall for an unspecified investigation. Moran did so after seeing two firefighters from the nearby station walk by on their way to getting lunch at another restaurant. Moran then told his two lunch companions they should look out the window and watch the two firefighters run back to the station after getting the call on their radios. (AP)
