Pollution in Cape Cod waters sparks debate

Nitrogen pollution suspected, but not everyone agrees

The dramatic rise in development on Cape Cod has caused major problems for local waters. The remnants of sewage from septic tanks are seeping into the groundwater and polluting estuaries, bays, and other bodies of water. The pollution has sparked a debate between environmental advocates who this fall filed a lawsuit against the federal government for failing to take action ,and some residents question the science and the estimated costs of repairing the problems, which range from $3 billion to $8 billion.
