The children’s choir scheduled to perform at Rhode Island’s tree lighting ceremony this week was no match for the bigger voices of the grown-ups, who drowned them out with a defiant version of “O Christmas Tree.’’ The protest, which played out in front of a daintly decorated spruce, was a public broadside in the so-called “War on Christmas,’’ which this week erupted inside the glorious marble rotunda of the Rhode Island State House.
