Christmas tree dispute erupts in Rhode Island

The children’s choir scheduled to perform at Rhode Island’s tree lighting ceremony this week was no match for the bigger voices of the grown-ups, who drowned them out with a defiant version of “O Christmas Tree.’’

The protest, which played out in front of a daintily decorated spruce, was a public broadside in the so-called “war on Christmas,’’ which erupted this week inside the glorious marble rotunda of the Rhode Island State House.
