Christmas comes early to children with little

Party provides presents to thousands of homeless

It was the end of a long, excitement-packed party, filled with cookies and dancing, and Tatianna Velazquez should have been exhausted. But when her present finally arrived, at the close of yesterday’s 23d annual Christmas in the City celebration, the toddler was fully alert. “A puppy! A puppy!’’ she squealed when the box was unwrapped, revealing a fluffy, white dog toy. It was one of countless perfect holiday moments at the party for 3,500 homeless children held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
