Holiday prank cheers riders, sours T bosses

It seemed like a delightful treat for the few customers riding the T on Christmas night: The lyrics of “Deck the Halls,’’ flashing on the LED display at Park Street Station, normally reserved for the date and time or for staid updates about MBTA service. But T officials did not look kindly on the unauthorized messages, programmed by a dispatcher to run four times between 7:15 and 7:20 p.m. The employee, whom the T did not name, faces a potential punishment that could range from a written warning to termination, depending on a review of his employment record.
