Yarmouth police arrested a man with a long record Wednesday on charges that he stole nearly $20,000 and a car from his 85-year-old neighbor in South Yarmouth in the last several months. Robert Paul Roche, 40, was charged with felony larceny pursuant to a single scheme and felony larceny from a person over 65. Roche had 195 prior charges on his criminal record. Officers went to the elderly woman’s home Wednesday morning after she said a man and his girlfriend to whom she rented a garage apartment had stolen her car and $200. Roche allegedly approached the woman and said doctors had amputated his son’s leg after a car accident. He asked for whatever cash she had in her wallet, and she gave him $200. Yarmouth police also said he had withdrawn more than $19,700 from the woman’s bank account in the last three months.
