Proposed casino developments in Massachusetts

The gambling law authorizes one casino in each of three regions, with a single slots parlor that can be in any region. The graphic below lists the details of some of the proposed developments.

Update: Earlier plans for a Hard Rock International casino in Holyoke stalled after opposition from Holyoke Mayor Alex B. Morse. However, Morse recently reversed his opposition to casinos and says he now would support the Mountain Park development.
Location: Mountain Park, north of downtown Holyoke

Cost: $500 million plus
Current use: Outdoor concert venue
Proposed development: Casino, 350-room hotel, convention center, performance amphitheaters, and restaurants. Plan also includes opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as hiking and canoeing around nearby Mt. Tom. Additionally, proposal asks for a new highway interchange off Route 91.

Current use: Part of Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds
Proposed development: Forty acres of the 175-acre fairgrounds would be dedicated to the new resort, said Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock. The project will include shops and restaurants, a hotel, a rooftop pool, a spa, a concert venue, and 25,000 square feet of convention space, Allen said.
