Riders blast T fare, service plans

At forum, many say cuts would ruin their lives

Nearly 300 MBTA riders wedged into Newton’s War Memorial Hall to express fear and frustration over the steep fare increases and dramatic service cuts proposed by the T. At the first of 22 planned transit agency hearings on the proposals, riders called on officials to consider the life-altering impact those changes would bring, particularly to low-income, elderly, and disabled residents.

So what are we turning into, Greece? We want high service levels and everything for free. Just go ask the Greeks what they think now - they're getting less and paying more. Everything costs - and I think those that use it should pay for it. I pay when I use it, but I don't expect I should pay when I don't, especially when the services don't go remotely close to where I need to go.

The MBTA's biggest commitment, first and foremost, is satisfying their employees' and retirees' paychecks and pension payments, bloated union-run health benefits, and all the other undeserved perks. Don't forget the unions bosses and Quislings! The riders come last.

This whining by riders is exactly the reason for the T deficit. A fare increase would dramatically alter the lives of Newton residents? Give me a break.
