Lynn police ask public to help them track down hit-and-run driver who killed 68-year-old Lynn woman

Lynn police today asked the public for “little bits of information’’ they hope can lead them to the driver of an SUV who drove into a 68-year-old woman, fatally injuring her during a rush hour crash Jan. 12.

Luyiza Polak was crossing Lynnfield Street -- in the crosswalk -- near Union Hospital around 5 p.m. when she was hit. Polak died five days later at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Lynn Police Lieutenant Christopher Kelly said.

“We are examining any available video that we can locate and pursuing all other investigatory leads,’’ Kelly, the department spokesman, said in a statement. “We are hoping anyone who saw something will come forward. Even little bits of information can be helpful.’’

Kelly described the vehicle involved as a “dark colored, newer model, SUV-type vehicle with a rounded shape.’’

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Lynn police at (781) 595-2000 or by using one of the alternative means posted on the department’s website.
