Leaders of the nonprofit, state-subsidized Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy today defended the decisions that awarded the executive director a $20,000 raise on top of her $165,000 salary. Nancy Brennan, executive director of the conservancy, said she’s grateful for her job, for “every dollar in my paycheck and I try to earn it,” and that the board made its decision based on her training and performance.

185 thousand for the "director", director of what? a luxurious median strip of about six acres. and even more directors and chief this or that collecting paychecks over 100 thousand a year. what in gods name do they do for this kind of money? we all know the answer, it's like a lot of the other agencies created for the politically connected, jobs for people who lack any real skills except for knowing whose coattail to grab. but,of all the agencies created for these leaches this one is the best example of the arrogance of power in this state. to make it even stink more, the only ones who actually do the work on this glorious median strip are paid a pittance compared to the fat as cats stealing our tax dollars. i want to know what actually have they done, what education do they have, how many of these pigs have even studied urban design, landscape architecture, horticulture. what an insult to so many of us.
These people do absolutely nothing.
It's fine for some public officials to make this much if that's what the market requires for a competent person to fill the position. I don't think that's clear here. The real question we should be raising is, is the position necessary? Is the agency necessary? Why can't the state Department of Conservation and Recreation manage these parks with existing in-house employees? How much does it take to maintain landscaping and give permits for people to do things there?
I know the old argument about getting what you pay for, but NO public official at any level should be pulling down well over 100k! There needs to be a cap on salaries in every agency and department. I don't care how qualified someone is, if they want and demand a corporate salary, go work in the corporate world. When will public officials ever get it?
OMG! Yet another shining example of why the Commonwealth is running out of money. $100K plus salaries for what? I'm missing something here!
I guess I'm woefully underpaid.
