Contractor mishap cuts power to area near Christian Science Center

A contractor working at the Christian Science center on Massachusetts Avenue struck an underground electric cable this morning, briefly cutting power to thousands of customers. NStar spokesman Mike Durand said the contractor, working on a new building at the center, accidentally dug into an NStar cable with a backhoe. Nearly 6,000 customers lost power. “Within about 20 minutes, all affected customers, with the exception of two Christian Science center buildings, had power back,” Durand said.
