US Senator Scott Brown’s campaign has spent $9,500 since December 2010 to pay his daughter to sing at three campaign events, including a pair of Christmas parties. Ayla Brown, a former American Idol contestant and performer, has been part of Brown’s appeal since he won a special election in 2010. His payments to his daughter appear in his campaign finance reports as disbursements to Ambient Entertainment LLC, Ayla Brown’s representative.

She performed...got paid...move on. Who cares?
Really? is this "dirt"? All on the up and up. Move on.
Good for Scott and his daughter. She deserves to get paid and her dad is a great senator and a veteran. I voted for him and I will vote for him again.
So. What.
Thanks, Globe, for bringing this to our attention. Is this the same Senator Scott Brown I recently heard speak about leveling the playing field when it comes to special perks that Congress receives? Wish I had a public fund I could draw upon to pay my kids... And what's with "only" $3.2k per event, Scott? Surely YOUR daughter's performances are worth more than the standard Bar Mitzvah/Wedding going rate, don't you think? How about $10k/performance? Who knows, you might even get away with $25k if you can leverage your contacts to get her on a TV show. Truly sickening... And for the record: I'm an Independent.
So, what if she gets paid for performing! Get a life - 'SingleVoice' Stop ragging on every issue you can interpret into a political story.
Maybe Noah can next explain to us why Lizzie Warren is worth $400,000 to teach one course at Harvard Law? At least Ayla can carry a tune.
Jeez, I paid more than that for the band at my daughter's wedding. I should have hired Ayla. The Globe will turn over every stone to find something on Scott Brown. I would have expected this in one of Joan V.'s attack columns.
Seriously, this is news? Why do you insist on attacking what many consider to be an All-American, 1st Class Family? She performed with her band and they were paid for their performance. Please let us readers know which laws were violated.
If SingleVoice is an independent, my name's Albert Einstein! More likely he or she is part of the Warren campaign.
Not exactly big news...but seems untoward for the daughter to be profiting from dad's campaign at all. These are funds donated by hard working Republican donors after all. It's not like they're wealthy or something. Oh wait...
So? The Globe loses more and more credibility with each day!
Yet you keep paying to read it. Interesting!
If the Koch brothers don't mind, it's none of my business how he spends their money.
All the Brown$ love that green! Ayla--ca$h in while you can. The Brown family gravy train is coming to a halt this November!
Better chance your drivers license, then, Albert.
embezzlement
The reason people should care: that conflicts of interest should be avoided whenever possible for those responsible for public dollars, particularly with benefits of family members. It would not have taken much effort to avoid funneling campaign dollars to a family member. No one saw the potential issue? Then it's a problem within the Brown campaign for whoever signed the check. I agree that it's not a big deal, but it's enough to keep me from signing the check to the Brown campaign I was going to send this weekend.
DISGUSTING.
