Big game, but no State House banner

Postseason success for the past decade - when the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots have all won championships - has been accompanied by another tradition, the hanging of banners on the front of the State House. But as the Patriots gear up for tomorrow’s Super Bowl in Indianapolis against the New York Giants, the bannerless State House is just its old picturesque self. Why no banner? According to an aide to Governor Deval Patrick, the Bruins and Celtics asked to hang banners during their most recent deep playoff runs and covered the costs. This time, the aide said, the Patriots never asked for a banner. (State House News Service)
