Peabody mulch fire sends smoke drifting over highway; State Police close highway ramp

A mulch fire in Peabody that was emitting dense clouds of smoke is no longer limiting visibility on nearby highways, State Police said this afternoon. The fire at a business on Farm Avenue that stores wood and mulch was under control by late afternoon, a Peabody fire dispatcher said. No one was injured. At the request of the Peabody Fire Department, State Police said, troopers closed the Interstate 95 southbound ramp to Route 128 northbound in Peabody. By about 3:45 p.m., the ramp had reopened, State Police said.
