Rare bird sighted in Wellfleet

Lazuli bunting, far out of place, has birders atwitter on the Cape

A rare bird has been attracting throngs of bird watchers to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary since it first appeared at a feeder last Saturday. The lazuli bunting, a “lovely songbird” native to the western United States, has only been seen twice before in Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Audubon Society. According to the society, lazuli buntings typically winter in western Mexico.
