Putting Johns in the dock

A new anti-trafficking law will stiffen penalties against customers of prostitutes - a move that many believe is critical to curtailing prostitution. The measure increases the maximum amount of jail time for johns, as well as providing for higher fines. Those who work with prostitutes say the law properly shifts the burden of punishment from the prostitutes, who are often exploited girls and women - to their customers, the men who generally walk away with light penalties, if any.
