MBTA union mum on treasurer’s departure

Officials at the largest union for workers at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority yesterday refused to say why their former treasurer has re-joined the rank and file as a roving stock employee. “It’s an official no comment from the Boston Carmen’s Union [Local 589],’’ said James O’Brien, vice president of the union, in a brief phone interview. Mastrocola did not return messages left at his Peabody home yesterday. The union president could not be reached.
