MBTA union audit reveals fiscal irregularities

The largest union for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority workers has acknowledged that a recent audit revealed financial irregularities in their coffers, following the recent departure of their treasurer. In a statement on the website of the Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589, president John Lee said the regular audit was performed earlier this month. “The positive news for MBTA riders and taxpayers is that this exclusively involved Union funds,’’ Lee said.
