Uxbridge police said a man who escaped from a state psychiatric hospital last week has been taken into custody. Police said John Lavallee, 28, was found yesterday near Southwick Zoo in Mendon after someone reported seeing him. State and local police with the aid of dogs and a helicopter had searched in Uxbridge Monday for Lavallee, who used to live in the area. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Mental Health said Lavallee is not considered dangerous, but told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette there is a concern he may not be able to care for himself.
