Snow and rains pound Massachusetts as winter makes a last gasp

March arrived like a lion — and a mouse — on Thursday as a much anticipated storm left nearly a foot of snow in parts of Massachusetts and only rain in others. Some towns in Western and Central Massachusetts were blanketed by a coat of snow and freezing rain, while other communities in Eastern and Southern Massachusetts, including Boston, saw mostly rain into the night.
