Maine’s Catholic diocese will not actively campaign against this fall’s expected statewide referendum seeking to legalize same-sex marriage, but will rather focus on teaching about the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. Bishop Richard Malone released a pastoral letter yesterday explaining the church’s position on marriage. It will be discussed at churches and schools, in the diocese’s magazine, and on radio stations devoted to Catholic issues. (AP)
