Former Maine Governor Angus King to announce Senate run

Angus King, the former independent governor of Maine, plans to announce tonight that he is running for US Senate in the race to replace retiring Olympia Snowe, according to two close political advisors. King served as governor from 1995 through 2003. His entry in the race as a well-known independent will complicate life for political handicappers who have been trying to determine whether the seat will go into Democratic or Republican hands. The outcome could decide which party controls the US Senate.
