Mental health panel endorses ‘panic button,’ fresh air bills

Mental health treatment facilities in Massachusetts would be required to make “panic buttons’’ available to staff in case of emergencies, under a bill given a favorable recommendation by the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse Wednesday. Supporters of panic buttons say it would ensure the personal safety of mental health workers, and cite the stabbing death of 25-year-old Stephanie Moulton at a residential home in Revere in January 2011 as the catalyst for the legislation.
