Bitter over Catherine Greig’s sweet deal

Cathy Greig got a sweet deal. She gets to keep her house in Squantum. And her mouth shut. But Whitey Bulger’s companion on the run for 16 years won’t be forced to testify against him as part of her agreement to plead guilty to harboring a fugitive and assorted fraud charges. It’s a good deal for her, but a lousy deal for Bulger’s victims, according to one of them.

Shameful, all the way around. If only the judge has the courage and the decency to sentence her to the maximum allowed by law. She played the system and she's going to win. The argument that her only crime was falling in love, as her lawyer asserts, is offensive. This woman doesn't have an ounce of morality. She knew what Whitey Bulger is and what he did and she threw everything away to help him avoid punishment for the really heinous crimes he committed. And now she gets a slap on the wrist because the feds don't want the real story to come out. Just disgusting.

Again, we see how tough Obama and Eric Holder is on crime. At the very least, DOJ shows its incompetence.

Your argument can also be used for the victims. They knew who he was. Bulger is still going to stand trial. Why do you say the Fed's do not want the story to come out? It already has come out. FBI agents have been exposed. Do not misunderstand me. What he did was terrible and he will spend the rest of his life in jail. It would be very difficult to convict her on things that Bulger did before they went into hiding.

That's because the Feds knew all along and would prefer Greig not speak. That's what happens when your government colludes with known criminals, or in this case, a serial murderer. I wonder why people don't trust government. I feel bad for the families of the victims as I'm sure that this won't be the last sweet deal given. Just like the Catholic Church and what happened at Penn State - covering up for the institution is more important than protecting victims. What a disgrace!!

If Catherine Greig was a man she would be spending the rest of her life in jail. She did not just run away with him. She shielded him and helped him commit more crimes such as illegal weapons and dirty money. She will be out of jail quicker than a street pot seller or an addict who stole to support a habit. Sal DiMato is serving a severe sentence for a violation of the public trust. To see the moll of a thug, murderer and manipulator serve less is a violation of the oath of office the federal prosecutor serves. Greig is a big time criminal. She is not an aside in the Whitey Bulger story. Thank you, Kevin Cullen for getting this story correct as you always do!

A sweet deal to keep her quiet. The Feds do not want Grieg or Bulger to embarrass them in open court. I suspect they will drag out the Bulger trial and then plead him out as well. Bulger could embarrass a lot corrupt cops , agents pols and judges . And sully the Kennedy's in a gun running case in northern Ireland as well.
