Agreement gives Greig little leeway, legal observers say

Greig set to enter plea Wednesday in federal court

After 16 years on the lam, James “Whitey’’ Bulger’s girlfriend Catherine Greig will now lay her fate before a US District Court judge. As Greig prepares to plead guilty in federal court to helping Bulger remain a fugitive, legal observers said Tuesday that federal prosecutors appeared to have given her little leeway in a plea agreement, and that US District Court Judge Douglas P. Woodlock will have the ultimate say in what kind of sentence she serves.

It's interesting what Cardinale had to say about the Bulger gun charges being a state matter. Is he implying that Bulger had no automatic weapons among the 30 or so firearms that were stashed behind his Santa Monica apartment walls? It is awfully hard to believe that there was not a single submachine gun kept by such a collector - no Uzi, no Tommygun, - awful hard to believe. As for Cathy babe, why couldn't the Obama Justice Department slap her with an immunity ruling to pressure her into testifying against Whitey? There is no privilege between gunman and moll, at least not in the "Law and Order" school of legal studies. This whole thing can be seen, in some opinings, as a softsoap for Cathy. Now what did the feds get in return? Maybe she will do a review of Whitey's second "autobiography"?
