Salem witch trial indictment sold to collector; document charged Margaret Scott with ‘witchcraft and sorceries’

The winner, who bid by phone, beat out two other bidders vying for the document, according to Swann Galleries in New York City, which facilitated the auction. Margaret Scott was accused of “certaine detestable arts called witchcraft and sorceries” in the indictment. She was later hanged as part of the last group of executions during the fabled witch hunt. Ultimately, 19 people accused of consorting with the devil were hanged.
