Rookie state trooper helps chase down armed robbery suspect in Worcester

A recent graduate of the State Police academy helped chase down an armed robbery suspect this afternoon in Worcester, authorities said. Trooper Erin McLaughlin, the graduate, was among the troopers who arrived at the scene of an alleged armed robbery at Garabedian Jewelers on West Boylston Street at about 2:45 p.m., State Police said in a statement. McLaughlin was involved in a foot chase of the suspect, identified as Christopher Fiorentino, 24, of Andover. State Police said he was chased into the path of McLaughlin’s field training officer, Trooper Jeffery Gilbert, and taken into custody.
