Springfield teen at house party arrested for allegedly shooting 65-year-old neighbor

Police arrested a Springfield teenager after he allegedly shot a 65-year-old woman on her front porch steps early Saturday morning, police said.

Jonatan Torres, 17 of 87 Commonwealth Ave., got into an argument outside a house party at 17 Fairmont St. in Springfield and fired a revolver around 2 a.m., Springfield Police Detective James Goldrick said.

A bullet missed Torres’ intended target and hit the woman, who was standing on the porch in her 18 Fairmont St. home, in the right bicep, Goldrick said. She was taken to Bay State Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police are not releasing her name.

Torres was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and unlawful possession of a handgun, Goldrick said. He will be arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court.

Police are investigating who the gun belongs to.
