Foxborough, Krafts battle over billboards

Property dispute clouds casino issue

They seem like a pair of ordinary advertising billboards, competing for the attention of drivers among the clutter of signage on busy Route 1. But a disagreement over who controls the billboards near Gillette Stadium is part of a dispute that has damaged the relationship between town government and its largest taxpayer, The Kraft Group, run by Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The Kraft Group insists the billboards are on its land. Foxborough officials say an easement gives the town control.

sounds a lot like extortion by the town.

One flaw in this story is -- no rationale for turning down the sewer project (and the Kraft cash) was given. I realize the story is about the billboard but there is often a lot more to it than the obvious things. An influential element is (it appears) the agreement between Foxborough & Kraft was not very clearly written and that allows both sides to interpret it their own way. Another case of fuzzy wording (thinking) that lawyers love and profit from. But, compared to the self serving Beacon Hill pols that get away with getting state jobs for supporters, this one seems to be an honest dispute.
