Cutting corners at National Grid

National Grid has cut jobs and outsourced others and is back at the bargaining table looking for more concessions from Local 12003 of the United Steelworkers. But the union is fighting back, saying what is being done to them is more than cutting the sort of jobs that raised a middle class; union workers say the company wants to replace them with lower-paid workers with less training and experience, raising its profits while reducing its safety.
