Delivery of T’s new fleet beset by delays

The MBTA’s order of 75 commuter-rail coaches has been delayed 18 months because of problems with the manufacturer, T officials acknowledge. That means passengers must keep waiting for an infusion of new coaches into the T’s creaky fleet. The T made headlines four years ago by betting on Hyundai Rotem USA, a South Korean company that had never built a rail car in the United States. Now it is trying to hold the firm’s feet to the fire as delays mount.
