Bowing to bishop, college cancels Kennedy speech

A small Catholic college that arranged to have Victoria Kennedy as its commencement speaker has disinvited her under pressure from the Worcester bishop, who found her liberal views unfit. Anna Maria College in Paxton, west of Worcester, released a statement placing the controversy at the feet of the bishop, Robert McManus, who approved the choice of her as a speaker a year ago. Sources said the bishop may have been pressured by an conservative donor, though the diocese denied that.
