MBTA board ready to vote on proposed fare increases

Members must approve balanced budget by April 15

The MBTA board is poised to vote Wednesday on a plan to raise most subway fares 30 cents, bus fares 25 cents, and commuter rail rides by $1.25 or more, a package board members appear to favor. In interviews, board members stopped short of telegraphing their votes, but said it is unlikely they would need to reconvene for a tentatively scheduled second meeting next week. By law they must approve a balanced budget by April 15.
