Red Line fire disrupts morning commute

Debris in tunnel blamed for blaze

A smoky trash fire in a tunnel between Downtown Crossing and Park Street stations disrupted service on the MBTA’s Red Line for more than an hour Wednesday during the morning commute. The inconvenience for MBTA riders came the same day that the MBTA board was expected to vote to raise most subway fares 30 cents, bus fares 25 cents, and commuter rail rides by $1.25 or more.
