Brush fire torches up to 50 acres in Brimfield

A brush fire raged across up to 50 acres of private land in Brimfield on Wednesday, prompting some people to voluntarily leave their homes, officials said. State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan said the fire started at about 11:30 a.m. and ignited debris - some of it several feet tall - left from June’s devastating tornado. He said dry air and high winds exacerbated the fire, which remained active late Wednesday.
