Martha Coakley publicity stirs speculation

2010 defeat did not end her higher office options

Two years ago, Coakley was political Kryptonite. The Democrat who lost Ted Kennedy’s seat to a little-known Republican wasn’t expected to have a political future, much less a rising one. But following her reelection win as attorney general 10 months after losing the Senate seat, she beat her way back to grudging respect. And when her office brought criminal charges against former treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, some questioned her political motives, thinking they spied an opening salvo in a new campaign.

Is this a surprise? Coakley will never give up her drive to higher office. She will indict, she will hunt down the easy targets to prosecute and she will eventually succeed in joining the ranks of sleazy politicians just like the ones she has indicted.

Martha Coakley has reached her apex as Atty. General...it suits her lawyerly nature. She should join her husband in retirement while her numbers are still high. (Her popularity was also through the roof before she took on Brown, and we know how that turned out. She is an adequate prosecutor but a stiff and uncomfortable campaigner and she should spare herself a crash and burn redux)

How is it that the BostonGlobe.com computers are set to the out-of-order button when certain commentators on political and other martters type, yet work for every other topic?

if you really care for good government, this lady is not the answer. she's part of the problem, not the solution. the people who work for the city, state, authorities, various unions who want NO changes and the big part of the globes declining circulation from various and sundry burbs who don't know any better make up thios so-called globes version of the word popularity. btw, the settlement she reached a few years back with parsons whatever for their part in the big dig debacle. what coakley settled for was a joke and coakley shoud have taken them to trial. BUT, GOD FORBID THE TRUTH WOULD COME OUT , madam popularity blinked and took the easy way out. ma

I assume the polls you cite are correct. But that is because Mass. is dominated by the Democrat Party and Democrat news media. Being an independent thinker and voter my take on Coakly is negative. Cahill is the only (former) Democrat she has prosecuted and that is because he ran as an independent. She has a seemingly purposeful blind eye toward the likes of Sal Demasi and the corrupt politicians before him. After the US Atty convicted Sal of selling jobs, Coakly has done nothing to remove those who were hired illegally and give honest folks a chance for a State job. For my money, she is worse than the convicted politicians simply because she is responsible for enforcing laws, including corruption laws, but is unwilling to prosecute loyal Democrats. She is only represents her party, not the rest of us.

"That's the dilemma for top prosecutors,'' Ubertaccio added. "If they're good at their job, they don't pay a lot of attention to which way the political winds are blowing. "A well-run prosecutor's office does not necessarily give someone a good stepping stone for higher office. You can offend and put off a lot of people simply by doing your job and doing it well.'' Who the hell says Martha is a top prosecutor? Who says her office is well run? Is she arguable doing a good job of routing out corruption in the state? How about chasing abuses in unemployment benefits to pensions? or what, or anything? Her only interests are the publicity-hunting bank bashing , or finance firms or whatever else she can conjure to hunt the private sector outside the state. what big cases has she won...NONE...everything gets settled, because private sector firms have to chose the pain of settling versus the costs of winning in court. As with the legislature, the Mass public has gotten just what we deserve with Martha. Top prosecutor? well run? You have to be kidding!!!!!!!

Marsha won't get my vote until she apologizes for the Fells Acres tragedy.

Probably will take over McGovern's seat...quid pro quo. Can't believe the Globe is still trying to prop up this empty suit. That record breaking lost lead is her biggest legacy.
